There’s nothing like a bottle of new perfume! Last year I was on a day trip with my friend Shelly who’d never been to Santa Barbara. We drove around Montecito looking at the gorgeous properties and ended up on State Street for lunch. After lunch, what else but a bit of shopping. We popped across the street to Saks Fifth Ave. - I love this store, it’s a little bit of trip back in time. Not that its a new store, it just has the elegance of an old store. Guess that’s just the Santa Barbara charm! Anyway, after shoes we were wondering around the perfume department and I came across the Jo Malone display. It was quite extensive with lots and lots of testers. But the best part was the sales lady. She must have been in her 70’s and she was so sweet and so posh with her perfect make up and pearls. I just fell in love with her and had to buy something!
I ended up with a gift set of Jo Malone bath oils - 6 little bottles containing scents like Pommegranate Noir, White Jasmine Mint and my favorite, Lime, Basil Manderin. Who could resist! All wrapped up in a beautiful cream and black bag tied with a grossgrain ribbon. We walked to the nearest Starbucks to examine the goodies and I persuaded Shelly to take home a couple of the scents. That’s what girlfriend days are all about!
That bottle of Lime, Basil Manderin went along with me to our house in Tuscany and defintely got used in the extra long bathtub. How luxurious!
On this last trip that Marc and I made to Los Olivos I suggested a little stop after lunch to Saks so I could buy a bottle of the fragrance. For me, it’s the perfect summertime fragrance and call me silly, but wearing it makes me feel like I am at a beautiful garden, farm or farmers market.
